The History of a Big Idea
Dr. Darrell Ward began eInstruction in 1980 determined to enhance classroom learning through innovation. He surveyed the landscape of burgeoning technologies asking what could be used to improve education. Thinking beyond the computer lab, how could the tried and true model of a classroom be made more effective?
A promising innovation in audience response was being developed at the time. Audience response systems had an intriguing function – they allowed everyone in the room to simultaneously respond to a question. Students remained anonymous to one another while the instructor saw feedback immediately.
eInstruction began working on software to make this system more usable for a classroom teacher. They designed smaller and more durable hardware that would be at home in a classroom. The result was the first Classroom Performance System.
Since then eInstruction has continued to make the system easier to use and more powerful. They pioneered RF (radio frequency) systems. They developed REAP, the first and only district solution for testing that lets administrators see real-time test results. They built Content SEARCH, the best way to get and share content. And they are committed to continually developing solutions that help every student, classroom, campus, and district succeed in education.
